The Dress Code... Link-Up

If you don't already know, I am a nursing student. I got accepted into the College of Nursing last semester, so starting this coming fall, I will be doing my clinicals + other nursing classes.

I'm linking up with Anna today to talk about the dress code that nurses have. Now, I'm not a nurse yet, but I have worked in a hospital as a CNA for almost three years now. I love it.

Today, I want to make my dress code wish list.

The best part of being in the nursing field is that your uniform is usually pretty comfy. I get to wear stretchy pants and a cotton shirt to work, which is pretty awesome. Here is one scrub top that caught my eye:

What do I look for when choosing scrub tops?

-I prefer the scrubs that have the mock wrap, which is the crossing over of the fabric by the neck
-Large pockets to store things
-A pattern that isn't too busy, but is still fun
-Something comfortable and easy to move around in (no frilly scrub tops)

With the top I chose above, it would be hard to chose the pants I'd want to wear with it. Black and white would look good, but I think I would try to find pants that match the purple that is in the shirt. Like this pair...

The pants that I showed above happen to be Cherokee pants, which are personally my favorite brand. They have a good amount of pockets and most importantly, they are very comfortable and move with my body.

Lastly, I've been really wanting a watch. I found this one. Probably a little fancy for work, but I love the sparkles!

Now that I have put together this super awesome outfit, I really want to buy it. The one downside is that scrubs aren't exactly cheap. I already have a pretty good selection now in my closet, so I really can't go out and buy these.

(A good portion of my scrubs, not including the ones in the washer)

Ugh, nursing problem ;) I guess that's why its called a wish list!

  1. Thanks for your post. I too am starting my second semester of nursing school in the fall & I can't wait!! I am going next week to take my CNA class so that I could possibly work while I go to school. Since you said you work AND go to school, can I ask how you do that? Do you work weekends only, or after you get out of class??? Right now I don't work, but I get unemployment, but soon I'll probably have to get a job, but they have to be willing to work around my schedule & I just wondered if I could do that with my CNA license. Thanks for any answers you could provide. I'm also your newest follower, would love it if you'd follow back :D

    1. Right now, I only work one weekend a month back at home while I'm at school. I go to college an hour away from my hometown, so I can't work during the week. It's hard to say about getting a job while you are in nursing school... I haven't started yet, but I heard it is very time consuming and it probably would be hard to find a job that would be willing to work with you and be flexible. There are some hospitals that hire people just to work on the weekends, so you could do that. I'm probably just going to get a job as a waitress or something on campus for next year, because I personally think it would be hard to go to school and work as a CNA. Hope this helps and good luck in school!

  4. Also here from the link up, and scrubs are NOT cheap...you're not lying. And I always like the way cherokees fit. Do you have a good uniform for clinicals? We had to wear a polo top with scrub pants - I hated having no pockets on top. Then of course the school changed the uniforms to full scrubs the semester after I graduated. :)

    1. Of course, because why wouldn't they change it after you graduated? :) We have full scrubs that are navy blue with the school logo on them. Nothing fancy, but with the scrub top and bottom + a polo shirt for God knows what, the total came to $70 (!!!). That's a lot. I haven't gotten to wear them yet, so hopefully they are AT LEAST comfortable!
